What you do need is inexpensive kitchen or lab equipment which is easy to find both in stores and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this video, Gail runs through the essential equipment that you need. While we don\u2019t recommend buying ingredients on eBay or Amazon, they are useful for finding equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What equipment do you <i>need<\/i> for making natural skincare products at home?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Thermometer<\/strong> such as an inexpensive glass lab thermometer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Digital scales<\/strong> that measure to 0.1g.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Electric stick blender<\/strong> for creating emulsions (creams and lotions).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Electric hand whisk<\/strong> for whipping body butter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Measuring beakers\/jugs <\/strong>&#8211; heatproof glass lab beakers are ideal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>pH strips.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hand whisk, spoons, spatulas.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Protective gloves<\/strong> &#8211; to protect both you and your products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><i>Creating<\/i> a double boiler\/water bath\/bain-marie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll need some way of creating a double boiler\/water bath\/bain-marie. This is for heating the oil and water phases of an emulsion and also for melting ingredients for balms and butters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This could be created by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Standing a glass beaker\/jug on a metal trivet in a saucepan of water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Placing one saucepan inside another.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using a double boiler insert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on which method you choose the following may be useful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"9\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Two saucepans.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>At least two heatproof glass lab beakers<\/strong>, pyrex jugs or autoclavable polypropylene chemical-resistant beakers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Double boiler maker or metal trivets\/rings<\/strong> (even a cookie cutter would work).
